Abu Dhabi Grand Prix travel guide: dates, where to stay and getting to Yas Marina

16 min read

The 2026 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix runs from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December at Yas Marina Circuit and is the final round of the season. The race starts at 17:00 local time (13:00 UTC) on Sunday 6 December [1]. The 2027 race is scheduled for 10–12 December 2027 and will be a Sprint weekend [3][4].

Calendar status (checked 31 Oct 2026): Abu Dhabi is on the official F1 calendar with unchanged dates [1]. F1 and the FIA have announced no change. Dates are subject to the official F1 calendar, so check formula1.com before you book, and choose flexible or refundable flights and hotels where you can.

Source: formula1.com race schedule [1], with local times cross-checked against formula1.com's 2026 calendar [1]. The promoter sells four-day tickets for 3–6 December, so Thursday is part of the event for ticket holders [5].

2027: 10–12 December, Sprint weekend. Session times are TBC, and F1 Tickets has a waitlist only so far [3][4].

Is the 2026 race definitely going ahead? As of 31 Oct 2026, it's on the official calendar with unchanged dates [1], and F1's CEO said on 3 October that the season will end in Qatar and Abu Dhabi as planned [12]. Media report an Imola contingency with a 10 November deadline, which F1 hasn't confirmed [13]. We'll update this page if the official calendar changes.

Where to stay: Yas Island vs downtown Abu Dhabi vs Dubai

This table is our editorial judgement. The transport facts come from official sources linked below.

Yas IslandDowntown Abu DhabiDubai
Getting to the circuitWalk or free island shuttleTaxi, ride-hail or bus 190Long road transfer, or two buses
Race-week price pressureHighestMediumLower, with the most choice
After the raceEasiest: you're already on the islandA taxi queue, then a shortish rideLong, late journey back
Evenings outConcerts and island venues on your doorstepCity restaurants and the CornicheThe widest choice, but far from the circuit
Best forA first visit, if budget allowsValue with a manageable commuteA combined Dubai holiday

Yas Island

Stay on the island if you can afford it and find a room. The circuit sits next to several hotels, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld and Yas Mall [1][4]. F1's ticket store says free shuttle buses run between the island's hotels, grandstands and entertainment venues on race weekend [4]. You avoid the worst of the post-race traffic, and the after-race concerts are next door. The trade-off is price: in our judgement, this is where race-week rates are highest and rooms go first. Search PitLane hotels.

Downtown Abu Dhabi

This is the middle option, with more hotel choice than Yas and a straightforward commute. The circuit says public bus route 190 runs to Yas Island from Abu Dhabi Bus Station, next to Al Wahda Mall [6]. Taxis and ride-hail apps (Careem, Uber) also work [6]. We haven't found an official journey time, so allow extra time on race days.

Dubai

Dubai usually has the most hotels, but it adds a much longer transfer each day. That hurts after a race that finishes after dark and a concert that runs later still. By public transport, the circuit's route is a bus from Al Ghubaiba Bus Station in Dubai to Abu Dhabi Bus Station, then route 190 to Yas Island [6]. If you stay in Dubai, we suggest arranging your race-night return in advance, with free cancellation where possible (our judgement).

Doing the Grand Prix as a day trip from Dubai

Plenty of fans do it, and lift shares from Dubai Marina get offered (F1 fans, 2024) [25]. Journey times are fan reports, not official figures. One group drove about 1.5 hours each way (F1 fans, 2024) [26]. Another fan took about 1 hour 10 minutes from Jumeirah Village Circle to Yas Mall, with no traffic until the mall (F1 fans, 2025) [27].

Our judgement: Dubai trades cheaper rooms for two long road trips a day, the second after a race that finishes after dark. If you go this way, keep the hotel refundable and plan your return before race day. See PitLane transport and PitLane hotels.

Getting to Yas Marina Circuit

  • Flights. Abu Dhabi International Airport is the closest. The circuit describes Yas Island as about 10 minutes away by taxi [6], and F1's ticket store says about 30 minutes by road [4]. Expect the longer figure on race days. Dubai's airports work too, but add the road transfer above. Compare at PitLane flights.
  • Taxi and ride-hail. Careem and Uber operate, and the circuit lists a taxi number (600 53 53 53) [6]. On race days, use the signed pick-up and drop-off points.
  • Driving. In 2025, Abu Dhabi's transport authority ran race-weekend shuttle buses from Yas Mall (Tryano Gate) to the circuit gates and Yas hotels [7], reported as free in 2025 (Khaleej Times) [41]. Expect the same in 2026, but confirm in the official Abu Dhabi GP app, and note that Yas Mall parking is no longer free all day (see Parking below).
  • On the island. Yas Express is a free island shuttle that runs daily from 9am to 9pm [6], and race-weekend shuttles link the hotels and grandstands [4]. Check the 2026 timetable in the official Abu Dhabi GP app closer to the weekend.
  • Leaving after the race. Everyone leaves at once, and many fans stay for the concert. In our judgement, staying for the concert is often quicker than queueing straight after the chequered flag. See Getting out after the race.

Getting out after the race

These are fan reports from the 2024 and 2025 races; 2026 arrangements may differ.

  • The crowd heads for Yas Mall. Several fans described long post-race waits there for taxis and ride-hail. One asked for more pick-up points (F1 fans, 2025) [15]. Another found no cars on the apps and drivers cancelling (F1 fans, 2024) [16].
  • Gate 19 is not a guaranteed shortcut. Staff sent one hospitality guest to Gate 19 for the public shuttle. After 10 minutes with a few hundred people and no buses, they took a Careem from a Yas hotel instead (F1 fans, 2025) [17]. Gate numbering may change for 2026.
  • Parking. Yas Mall now charges for parking: normally the first 4 hours a day are free, then AED 20 for the 5th hour and AED 10 an hour after that, paid by Salik or QR code (Yas Mall, checked 31 Oct 2026) [38][39]. Over the 2025 race weekend it charged more, with 3 free hours, then AED 30 and AED 20 an hour [38]. No 2026 race-weekend rate has been published, so expect to pay for a full race day and check yasmall.ae before you drive. Fans who parked there in 2025 reported being charged [24][37].

Our judgement: plan your exit before the race starts. Pick one: stay for the concert, eat on the island while the queues ease, or agree a pick-up point away from the main gates in advance.

F1 Tickets [8]Main, South and West Straight Grandstands—Sold out

Prices change, so recheck them before you buy.

Which area for which budget (our judgement):

  • On a budget: general admission or Abu Dhabi Hill.
  • For overtaking: the West Grandstand. F1's own guide recommends it for the moves into Turn 6 at the end of the 1.2km straight [1].
  • For atmosphere and the start: the Main Grandstand, if you can find a seat. It's sold out on F1 Tickets.

F1's guide also suggests sitting high up to keep out of the sun [1]. Compare stands on our Yas Marina grandstand guide.

Fans say, by stand (paraphrased fan reports; individual experiences, and 2026 may differ):

  • West and South: one fan said these let you see racing and overtaking (F1 fans, 2025) [18], in line with F1's advice above.
  • South, upper level: one fan near the centre had great views and saw plenty of overtakes. (F1 fans, 2024) [26].
  • West Straight Premium: one fan in section 3 found the larger West Grandstand blocked the corner, and recommends section 4 or higher (F1 fans, 2025) [27].
  • North Grandstand suites: one fan had a great view of Turns 3–5 but saw little action in front of them (F1 fans, 2024) [28].
  • Pit-lane walk: fans described it as dangerously crowded in 2024 and 2025 [22][18]. One fan who paid for early access still queued about two hours (F1 fans, 2025) [23].
  • One fan reported a steep price jump. In February 2026, one fan said they paid AED 2,285 for West Premium in 2025 and were quoted AED 5,473 for 2026, including a AED 273 service fee [21]. This isn't an official price: the promoter's 2026 page lists no "West Premium" ticket (checked 31 Oct 2026) [5].

Is hospitality worth it?

Fan reviews are mixed, and products and prices change yearly.

  • Horizon Terrace: one guest paid about €2,400 for two (a fan report, not an official price). They called the race view poor and thought Abu Dhabi Hill's was better (F1 fans, 2025) [17].
  • 360 at Sixteen: one guest found the views fantastic, but seating wasn't assigned and fewer than half of guests got a track-facing seat (F1 fans, 2025) [19].
  • Garden on Yas: one fan said it wasn't worth the money once its single row of seats filled (F1 fans, 2024) [20].

Our judgement: before you pay, ask the official seller in writing whether seats are assigned, whether you can see the track itself and not just screens, and what's included. Buy from the official sellers listed above.

What the weekend is like

Twilight to night. The race starts at sunset and finishes under floodlights [4]. Qualifying and FP2 also run into the evening (see the session table).

After-race concerts. Concerts run each night at Etihad Live, the open-air venue next to the circuit. Entry is included for Grand Prix ticket holders, and Golden Circle upgrades give access closer to the stage [9][10]. The 2026 line-up [10][11]:

  • Thursday 3 December: Kings of Leon and Lewis Capaldi
  • Friday 4 December: Jennifer Lopez and Alex Warren
  • Saturday 5 December: Imagine Dragons
  • Sunday 6 December: The Chainsmokers and The Script

Check entry rules on abudhabigp.com before you go.

Weather. December climate normals for Abu Dhabi International Airport (1991–2020) are a mean daily high of 26.5°C and a mean low of 15.7°C, with 2.4 days of rain on average across the whole month [14]. Pack for warm afternoons and cooler evenings, plus sun protection.

Before you go

  • Mobile data. You'll lean on ride-hail apps and the official Abu Dhabi GP app all weekend, so check your roaming charges before you fly, or, if your phone supports eSIM, set one up from a provider such as Airalo (affiliate) before you leave home.
  • Packing. Pack for warm afternoons, cooler evenings and strong sun (see Weather above). If you want team kit for the finale, the F1 Store (affiliate) sells official merchandise; order early so it arrives before you fly.

Is Abu Dhabi a good first race?

This section is our editorial judgement. Abu Dhabi can be a good first race if you want an easy, warm-weather weekend where the hotels, circuit and evening concerts are close together on one island. The trade-offs are a long-haul flight from the UK, prices at the top end of the calendar, and a championship that is sometimes already settled by the final round. For a cheaper first race closer to home, see our guide to choosing your first race. For combining races, see two races, one trip in 2027.

Doing Qatar too

The Qatar Grand Prix is a week earlier: Sunday 29 November 2026 at Lusail, then Abu Dhabi on Sunday 6 December [1]. In 2027 the two races run back to back again, with Qatar on 3–5 December and Abu Dhabi on 10–12 December [29]. Both 2026 races are on the official F1 calendar, and the dates are subject to it. Media report an Imola contingency, which F1 hasn't confirmed [13][1].

Fans' Lusail reports:

  • Getting there: the metro and shuttle were easy going in, but one fan's Saturday exit took about 2.5 hours (F1 fans, 2024) [31]. Another found the free shuttle queues short (F1 fans, 2025) [32].
  • Food queues: long in both years [33][34].
  • Hotels: one fan's five-star Doha booking was cancelled about a week before the race, and they passed on reports that another hotel had done the same to other travellers (F1 fans, 2025) [35][36]. A refundable booking is worth having.

Our judgement: if you combine the two, book flexible or refundable flights and hotels, and keep a backup option in Doha. Compare both on the Qatar race page, and see our two races, one trip guide.

Plan it on PitLane

FAQ

When is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix? The 2026 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix runs Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December at Yas Marina Circuit, with the race at 17:00 local time (13:00 UTC) on Sunday 6 December, as the final round of the season. The 2027 race is scheduled for 10–12 December 2027 and will be a Sprint weekend. Dates were checked against formula1.com on 31 Oct 2026; check there before you book.

Where should I stay for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix? Stay on Yas Island if you can afford it and find a room. You're closest to the circuit and avoid the worst of the post-race traffic. Downtown Abu Dhabi is the middle option, with more choice and a taxi or bus 190 ride to Yas. Dubai usually has the most hotel choice, but it adds a much longer transfer each day, which matters after a late-finishing race.

How do I get to Yas Marina Circuit? By taxi or ride-hail, by bus 190 from Abu Dhabi Bus Station, or by car to Yas Mall (paid parking) and then the race-weekend shuttle, which the transport authority ran from there in 2025. From Dubai, take the bus from Al Ghubaiba to Abu Dhabi Bus Station, then route 190, or go by road.

How much are Abu Dhabi GP tickets? As of 31 Oct 2026, the promoter lists general admission from AED 745 and grandstands from AED 1,895. On F1 Tickets, Abu Dhabi Hill starts at €379.28, and several grandstands are sold out. Prices change, so recheck them on the official sites.

Is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix good for a first race? It can be, if you want an easy, warm-weather weekend where the hotels, circuit and evening concerts are close together on one island. The trade-offs are a long-haul flight from the UK, prices at the top end of the calendar, and a championship that is sometimes already settled by the final round. If you want a cheaper first race closer to home, see our guide to choosing your first race.

Is the 2026 race definitely going ahead? As of 31 Oct 2026, it's on the official F1 calendar with unchanged dates, and dates are subject to that calendar. Media report an unconfirmed Imola contingency. Check formula1.com and book flexible or refundable travel.

How do I get back from Yas Marina after the race? Fan reports from 2024–2025 describe long waits at Yas Mall for taxis and ride-hail. Plan your exit in advance: stay for the concert, eat on the island, or agree a pick-up point away from the main gates.

Can I do the Abu Dhabi GP as a day trip from Dubai? Yes. Fans report roughly 1 to 1.5 hours each way by car (2024–2025); we found no official time. Expect a late return, and keep bookings refundable.

Can I go to Qatar and Abu Dhabi on one trip? Yes. In 2026 the races are a week apart (29 November and 6 December), and in 2027 they're back to back (3–5 and 10–12 December). Dates are subject to the official F1 calendar, so book flexible or refundable travel.
